Being a parent is hard.
I know your shocked.
Something I am realizing more and more is that being a step parent can be way harder.
I watch my wife…mother of my youngest son…and marvel at how well she handles him. She may disagree, but I am really amazed at her as a mother. [...]
Tony went to the Ortho for his 2 year check up on his leg. I am always amazed by his wide eyed optimism. We parked on the 5th floor of the parking deck.
“High!!!….Bird!!!”
He loved being up high. We watched some big truck drive under us.
“Truck!!!Big Truck!!!”
So we went into the doctor’s [...]
You automatically think of cars or sports or tits…probably a little nut scratching. Things that women don’t understand or talk about. Today I was reminded that man talk can also means dad talk. A friend of mine called and ask me to lunch. We met at a Cajun place. The nut scratching began…each our own [...]
4:00 am.
The house is quite.
Then Tony decides he is unhappy and starts yelling.
Now, I do as every dad does in this situation…wait a few moments to see if mom is going to make a move.
She doesn’t, so I get up to check on him. For the record, We don’t ferberize our [...]
Wow…2 years have gone by since you came into my life. I remember being in the delivery room with your mother, trying to notice every detail of the room so I could always remember it…should have taken more pictures. the first time I saw you…with your head full of black hair. it’s now blond, like [...]
I guess sleep overs aren’t that big of a deal for most folks, but this weekend was Jack’s first at our house. It was kinda a big deal because of that. I had never met Jack’s friend and only spoke briefly to his mom on the phone. This is one of Jack’s best friends. They live 2 [...]
I have this weird dark side. I’m sure most people do and just ignore it. And most of the time mine is tame, but sometimes I feel my right brain goes alittle far.
I imagine scenarios. Not like “What if I win the lottery” or’What if I were on an island of 100 naked clones [...]
No parent should ever bury a child. I watched my grandmother grieve the passing of my uncle, Anthony Dewayne, her youngest. He was 40. It was devestating to witness. It was against the normal flow of nature. My ex grandfather in law saw his only 2 children pass within just a few years of each [...]
I love when he brings you a book, then turns around so you can pick him up and set him in your lap. It’s extremely sweet. And it’s almost the only time he snuggled anymore. What makes it extra nice is when he take a big ole dump while your reading to him. Nothing is [...]
Everytime I take jack home after dark I see them. 2 medium sized trees growing outside his bedroom window. His mom and I bought the house new in 2002. It was new construction so all the trees were gone. We decided to plant some ever greens around the house. The only spot I wanted them [...]
